IBERIA PARISH, LOUISIANA – A news story published on www.katc.com reports that the Louisiana State Police are investigating a head-on accident that occurred on Jefferson Island Road in Iberia Parish, Louisiana. The tragic, fatal head-on collision killed two drivers and injured three people last Saturday afternoon.*

According to the Louisiana State Police, their agency was called out to the deadly crash at around 3 PM. As the State Police arrived at the two-vehicle collision, the officers found two vehicles collided head-on and several people severely injured at the scene.

The preliminary accident investigation showed that a Kia Spectra driver was traveling southbound along Jefferson Island Road. The second vehicle, a 2001 Acura CL, was traveling northbound. At some point, the Kia crossed the median line and crashed into the Acura head-on. The accident investigation is trying to determine why the Kia crossed the centerline. The Kia driver and his passengers were not wearing seatbelts, and they were taken to local hospitals for treatment of severe injuries. Both drivers tragically passed away. The Acura’s driver and her passenger were wearing the seatbelts and were taken to local area hospitals with severe injuries as well.

The fatal head-on accident is currently under investigation. Law enforcement believes impairment and speed may have been a cause and its officers are awaiting toxicology reports from the drivers.

Louisiana State Troopers are reminding drivers to make the right choices while driving motor vehicles. First, the troopers remind drivers to ensure their passengers wear their seatbelts, avoid driving while impaired, distracted, or tired. Louisiana State Troopers Troop I has investigated 52 fatal accidents resulting in more than 60 deaths in 2021.
